Position Summary:
Vizgen is a seeking an Intern to join our technology development team and mentors in our Cambridge, MA office. The Intern will support a series of projects in light to improve Vizgen's software and/or bioinformatics technology. We are seeking an Intern with an academic record or experience aligned with our technology initiatives. The Intern will learn about daily operations of an exciting biotech company with disruptive technology. Help advance the field of instruments for biological research!
Responsibilities:
- Work alongside software developers, bioinformaticians, computation biologists and/or peers to gain insight and complete assigned tasks.
- Optimize new and existing data and software code(s) with emphasis on quality, maintenance, and reuse.
- Effectively investigate and address bugs within data systems, software, and technological errors
- Present materials and engage in all-company meetings with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Investigate and report solutions to novel problems.
- Interact directly with colleagues in resolving complex challenges.
- Collaborate with full-time staff to provide timely suggested resolutions to potential consumer questions and concerns.
- Flexibility to perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a PhD or equivalent graduate degree program at an accredited institution.
- Must be majoring in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Information Technology, Biochemistry, Information Studies, Biomedical Engineering, or related subject matter
- Some background knowledge of molecular biology concepts, computational biology, and/or bioinformatics
- Work experience in the life sciences industry would be a plus.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, Python, C# and/or bash scripting required.
- Experience with Windows required.
- Must have a technical mindset with great attention to detail.
- Experience with Linux highly preferred.
- Experience with various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, data lake, etc.) highly preferred
- Familiarity with genetics & genomics is a plus.
- Some understanding of microscopy and its basic principles would be ideal.
- Must possess strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Highly effective in communicating in written, verbal, and presentation form.
- Must be proficient and have practical knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work well within a team and independently at times with limited guidance.
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis as Vizgen policy is not to provide immigration-related sponsorship for internships.
- Ability to work in controlled environments that may require special gowning. Gowning requirements include a wearing protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
- May be asked to work in a confined area.
