The Learning & Public Practice Intern, Art & Resilience supports the Department of Learning & Public Practice (LPP) at the Wexner Center for the Arts, which serves the public through community, youth, school, teacher, university, and public programs. The intern will collaborate with full-time staff, visiting artists, artist educators, and other interns on a range of projects and programs within LPP based on individual interests and the mutual needs of the intern and the department.
The position supports LPP staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating Art & Resilience programs at the Wexner Center and in the Columbus community. Art & Resilience programs and initiatives centralize individual and group-based resilience building, wellbeing, and radical access and inclusion through the arts. This work is rooted in the belief that arts engagement, when framed with intention, can support individual and community resilience building and wellbeing. Arts organizations like the Wexner Center can be active agents in creating an ecology of collective care.
Responsibilities: While this intern will collaborate with full-time staff, visiting artists, artist educators, and other interns on a range of projects and programs within LPP, this position will hold special responsibilities housed within Art & Resilience (A&R) programs. This intern will act as a liaison for the Ohio State A&R Student Org, managing ongoing communication and collaboration between this growing org and the Wexner Center. Depending on the interests of the intern and the needs of A&R programming, specialized training may be required related to A&R's outreach to vulnerable communities.
The intern must exhibit professionalism in their communication and their work. Because the intern will also engage with the public, they must maintain a friendly and inquisitive demeanor and superb customer care and service.
Requirements: Candidates must be available to work 5–10 flexible hours a week (determined between supervisor and intern) with occasional evenings and weekends. Selected candidates must support 8-10 LPP programs per semester, attend a virtual weekly LPP cohort meeting, and participate in the regular reporting, communication, and evaluation of their work. Applicants must have a strong interest in arts engagement, social justice, inclusion and diversity, and outreach and community engagement. Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills are necessary. Curiosity, an empathetic and congenial working style, flexibility, and the ability to work as part of our team and with the public are essential. Applicants should also have computer and technology literacy. Graphic design skills are a plus, but not required.
Term: This internship takes place over the academic year (Fall 2023–Spring 2024). Summer term start-dates may be available depending on need and availability. Position renewal is possible.
Compensation: Pay range is $11–14/hr. Hire rate will be determined by candidate experience. The Wex can also support course credit work through the candidate’s home academic unit in lieu of monetary compensation, if preferred.
Application Timeline and Procedures: All applications must be submitted online, through Workday. Applications or related materials will not be accepted via email, postal mail, or in person. For consideration, applicants are required to provide:
