Description of Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for understanding, designing, and modifying mechanical systems within R&D and production environments. This person is responsible for generating CAD and drawing files, specification sheets, and templates for components, systems and subsystems for BOMs, and maintaining versioning. They will also have the responsibility to manage (with Purchasing) the delivery of parts to meet device build schedule deadlines. They will work with a PDM system to maintain custom systems and equipment records. They will work with other engineers and Quality to establish the state of a system and/or device, its role in the production environment and its verification/validation.
Education, Business Experience, and Physical Requirements:
- 4-year degree from accredited post-secondary education preferred
- Minimum 2-year degree from accredited post-secondary education.
- Must be able to work in a cleanroom environment and wear associated PPE.
Desired Competencies:
- Experience in the creation of mechanical designs, ranging from components to subsystems and assemblies
- Experience with manufacturing processes, including the achievable tolerances for each process, and methods for qualifying mechanical components for meeting performance specifications
- Experience with GD&T, drafting standards, and both Metric (SI) and Imperial units of measure.
- Experience with drafting, computer aided design (CAD), and product development management (PDM) software for managing parts and assemblies (SolidWorks PDM experience preferred)
- Experience in the engineering change control process and required deliverables.
- Experience holding design reviews.
- Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather information about form and function for design deliverables.
-Experience interfacing with vendors to communicate design intent, answer technical questions and procure equipment.
- Experience working with computers and word processing software such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (or equivalent)
