Occupational Therapist

pay: $60/Eval, $50/Visit

Department:

Main Function:

Organizes and conducts occupational therapy programs in the home to facilitate rehabilitation of the mentally or physically handicapped. Directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. Strives to facilitate the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity in daily life. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to maximize patient’s outcomes

Clinical Supervisor

Supervises Directly:

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Licensure/Certification:

Licensed in state where employed.

FLSA Status:

Non-exempt

Education:

Graduate of an approved occupational therapy program.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:

Minimum of one year of occupational therapy experience

Professional Qualifications

Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity needed.

Work Conditions:

  • Exposed to the risk of disease and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Extensive car travel.
  • Must be able to adapt to difficult working situations i.e.: unsanitary environment, and potentially unsafe areas.
  • May use power tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients.
  • Occasionally lifts supplies/equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.

Duties:

1. Plans a variety of sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social

activities to provide occupational therapy to patients

2. Consults with other members of the team to select the most appropriate activity program for individualized patient care based on the individual’s capacity, intelligence level, interest, and capabilities

3. Teach patient and family members special techniques or provides adaptive devices to help the patient gain independence in self-care and other daily activities.

4. Utilizes activities and exercises to improve range of motion, strength, and coordination of upper extremities.

5. Provides splints and recommends adaptive equipment to improve occupational functioning, enhance skill development and to retard and/or prevent deformity.

6. Serves as a consultant to client home health agencies for questions pertaining to Occupational Therapy. Participates in policy development related to Occupational Therapy activities.

7. Demonstrates respect for the rights of the patients and family and at all times respects the confidentiality of any and all information relating to the patient.

8. Offers Inservice presentations to staff. Participates in case conferences and utilization review.

9. Reevaluates patient’s needs with respect to the plan of care and patient’s response to same. Communicates changes with the patient’s physician and Clinical Supervisor and notes changes in the care plan.

10. Completes all paperwork requirements in accordance with to client home health agencies policy.

11. Communicates on a regular and timely basis with Clinical Supervisor on all clients for the purpose of securing ongoing visit approvals.

14. Participates in the orientation process.

15. Maintains and enhances professional knowledge base by participation in formal education programs, staff meetings, conferences, Inservice and professional organizations, and journals.

16. Supports the goals and projects of the Quality Improvement Department and participates in QI projects/studies.

17. Acts as a patient advocate.

18. Performs all other tasks assigned by Clinical Supervisor or Director of Professional Services.

19. Adheres and promotes the elements of the to client home health agencies Compliance Program by attending/participating in training and education specific to their responsibilities.

20. Acts as a representative of client home health agencies by supporting and adhering and ensuring compliance to departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and HIPAA guidelines.

21. Positively affects other people and their morale as a result of disposition, tact, enthusiasm, sincerity, and appearance. Established rapport, gains respect and cooperation, inspires and motivates, and deals effectively with all employees.

Pay: $26.00 - $77.00 per hour
