Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for an Operations Shift Manager at our East Chicago, Indiana operation. The Operations Shift Manager is responsible for supervising a unionized workforce and daily operations and internal logistics of the truck fleet. The ideal candidate will have prior industry experience, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Administer and train company standards of environmental, safety, quality, and procedures to maintain compliance, while consistently executing audits on a timely basis.
• Monitor the operation and intercede promptly with corrective action, coordinating multiple disciplines in the execution of these duties.
• Work with maintenance organizations, such as planners and schedulers, to develop work lists of repairs and/or preventative maintenance items.
• Make operational decisions in high-stress situations, follow directions from superiors, and abide by corporate policies and procedures.
• Develop and perform studies to identify problems, make recommendations to achieve desired improvements, and communicate process improvement ideas to the workforce that promote reliability, quality, safety, and productivity.
• Supervise union employees of operating and maintenance personnel in the assigned operating unit and monitor vendors and contractors in a 24/7/365 environment.
• Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-Cleveland-Cliffs contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two-year technical, business management degree, or high school diploma with significant experience.
• Two years of work experience supervising crews in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• Available to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, in a multi-level organization that operates 24/7, and working extended hours as needed.
• Self-motivated with minimal direction required for day-to-day operations.
• Proven team-building skills, working well with others of diverse backgrounds, and being able to motivate others.
• Proven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in business management, technology, or related discipline.
• Prior experience in a union environment or similar military leadership experience is a plus.
• Five (5) years of supervisory experience in a steel mill, manufacturing, process, production, or equivalent facility.
• Knowledge of safety and health policies including key components of the OSHA regulations and ASTM specifications.
