Position Overview

This position reports directly to the Testing Operations Coordinator and supports the Breeding program with activities related to the operations at all testing sites to ensure all yield trials are conducted following GDM's testing standards to produce high quality data. This position is also responsible for overseeing and directing certain needs for the Field Operations and Logistics team's efforts, all to achieve specific goals and deadlines.

The Research Supervisor - Field Operations follows guidelines provided by the Testing Operations Coordinator, working closely with the Testing Operations Coordinator to achieve logistics needs and standardize operations across the different geographies where GDM conducts tests.

The Research Supervisor - Field Operations is expected to support planting, crop maintenance, and harvest activities of all trials for the whole Breeding program and winter service.

The ideal Research Supervisor - Field Operations is highly organized with attention to detail, strong communication, and delegation skills. They have strong leadership skills, prioritizing the training of their direct reports and overseeing their work duties, to ensure successful testing operations of the Breeding program.

The ideal Research Supervisor - Field Operations is flexible to change and possesses the agility to asses changes, formulate new plans, and carry out the required tasks to ensure the successful accomplishment of projects.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee the supervision of employees, including training for new employees and seasonal workers
• Possess and utilize a pesticide applicator license, Class A CDL
• Oversee field operations: Planting, Harvesting, Traveling, Field Prep, Operation of Equipment, Plot Maintenance, etc.
• Oversee data collection
• Oversee and perform mechanical and preventative maintenance on equipment, preparing machines for Field Operations and Logistic needs
• Unmanned Aircraft License preferred
• Overnight stay required to meet business demands
• Oversee warehouse organizational needs specific to Field Operations and Logistics
• Oversee the cleaning of fields, especially after harvest and with regards to any regulated materials or leftover trash

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's, or Associate degree in Agronomy, Crop & Soil Sciences, or relevant experience in similar fields preferred
• Knowledge of soybean farming and other farming practices
• 3+ years of experience in a breeding program or similar relevant experience
• 1+ years supervisory experience
• Ability to operate farm machinery such as tractors, sprayers, and combines and to perform machine and equipment maintenance
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to lift 60lbs or more of shifting weight
