POSITION OVERVIEW

The Software Engineer will contribute to the development, testing, integration, and maintenance of Vision’s software products- Precision Mount Control System (PMCS), Clear2Fire®, Digital Video Recorder, Digital Video Player, and Digital Video Analyzer, meeting the unique needs of each customer, while reusing as much in-house technology as possible to stay competitive.

At Vision Engineering Solutions, our products are built in-house, from drivers, to custom middleware, to a clean dynamic web interface. We don’t simply integrate other products to build a solution. Because we use our own products, software engineers work closely with hardware engineers and technicians in determining requirements, as well as, the look, feel, and function of the system they are supporting. Software engineers get a better understanding of their hardware engineering counterparts and get to see the fruits of their labor early and up close as their software is integrated into Vision’s systems, tested, and used in operations. Finally, the wide variety of operations we conduct and support, along with the spectrum of technical knowledge and experience resident at Vision Engineering Solutions, provide regular opportunities for professional growth.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

Vision has an established reputation within the Department of Defense, having supported the Directed Energy Joint Transition Office (DE JTO), Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), and many other agencies. We support the Army PEO STRI with tracking system refurbishments and upgrades, designing and integrating optical communication systems for Air Force Research Laboratory and NIWC, developing a laser deconfliction for DE JTO, and supporting the Air Force with laser testing and laser subject matter expertise.

Additionally, we are well-positioned in the free space optical communication (lasercom) market to support ground-to-space communications. We will deliver an optical tracking systems for two lasercom ground stations, will be developing a transportable variant, and have the knowledge and experience to develop a shipboard version, as well. This position reports to the CEO for performance evaluations, and to the Lead Engineer for daily technical assignments. The Company is looking for a self-starting, versatile individual capable of integrating into a team and quickly learning new skills.

Description

Researches, designs, and develops software products using the principles of software engineering. Work may include the design and development of algorithms, user interfaces, network interfaces, and databases. Work may also involve planning and supervising: software testing, software documentation, and field testing of developed applications.

Reports to the CEO.

Tasks

• Technical contributor with demonstrated design skills; is assigned difficult technical problems within/outside domain of expertise.
• Develop detailed task list for software product design given product performance requirements
• Design new software applications and modify legacy software applications
• Develop algorithms and new functionality to enhance existing products.
• Develop software product testing procedures
• Perform software product testing
• Analyze product testing data for performance/compliance evaluation
• Troubleshoot/debug new and legacy software applications
• Develop documentation for new and legacy software applications
• Review and approve software documentation
• Follow best practices for writing and documenting software code
• Generate labor estimates for proposals.
• Work effectively with minimal supervision
• Contribute to continuous process improvement
• Actively support team members, the team efforts, and the company culture

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• U.S. Citizen
• Active DoD Secret security clearance
• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years demonstrated results in software engineering
• 5 years experience in C/C++ language (must be within last 7 years)
• Expertise with C++ STL
• Demonstrated pattern of continuous learning.
• Code diagnosis (logic and reasoning about how/why things are or aren’t working)
• 5 years experience with Linux operating systems
• Direct experience using OpenGL/Shaders
• Direct experience performing image processing with OpenCV

Desired Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• Effectively communicates technical ideas to non-technical personnel
• Requirements gathering (customer interfacing)
• Requirements definition (covering use cases, testability, feasibility)
• Experience with the Linux Real-Time kernel
• Direct experience with data analysis tools, e.g., MatLab, Python, etc.
• Project management experience
• Experience with ISO 9001:2015
• Expertise in MS Windows

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
