Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager – Operations – Scrap in our Steelmaking Department. As a Shift Manager – Operations – Scrap at Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton, you will be part of a team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. The successful candidate will provide leadership in ensuring that work is performed safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers. The ideal candidate will have prior steel industry experience, be self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the scrap handling facilities.
• Provide tools and resources necessary to ensure the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of the facility.
• Manage crews at the scrap handling facilities, while facilitating a safe and productive work environment.
• Manage in a union atmosphere and able to prioritize and direct union personnel.
• Direct some maintenance activities to support a reliable operation.
• Ensure product quality.
• Trouble shoot, support continuous improvement activities, work with outside contractors/vendors, and communicate key performance measures to his/her supervisor.
• Improve reliability across the scrap handling facilities to decrease cost, improve production, and help meet customer needs.
• Manage issuance of disciplinary actions for hourly employees.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• Two years of operations supervisory experience in an industrial environment, preferably in a union facility or a candidate without supervisory experience who has an interest in pursuing a career in a manufacturing environment and has at least 1 year leadership experience.
• Proficient computer skills including all MS Office applications.
• Good troubleshooting, and team building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to be on-call on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
• Willingness to work different shifts, including nights and afternoons.
• Ability to lift more than 25 pounds on occasion.
• Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required

Preferred Qualificatoins:

• Five (5) years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in another Steelmaking shop, scrap, or steel plant operation, with three (3) years in a supervisory role in operations.
• Experience in a union environment
