Summary:

Technology is now driving change in the trucking industry at nearly the same pace as the rest of our lives. Stoops Freightliner-Western Star is looking to hire and develop a technical expert who will support our sales force, as well as our customer base with the knowledge and tools needed to leverage the ever-changing technology most effectively. After a thorough development period, this position will be viewed as a creditable consultant by our customers, and an essential resource to our truck sales professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Powertrain analysis

o Provide spec recommendations and facilitate trade-off discussions based on a customer’s mission profile, duty cycle, etc.

· Safety & technology expert

o Develop highest level of competency regarding available safety systems, competitive offerings, and other related technologies

· Alternative Fuel Vehicles Support

o Battery electric vehicles are now in production and available. Candidate will be looked to as a consultant by our sales force and customers, not only for product application guidance, but also for infrastructure requirements. Additionally, the TSR will guide customers to available funding and incentives that may be available.

o Selected candidate will also use available resources to learn, understand, and advise on other emerging technologies

· Customer Training

o Areas such as driving for fuel economy, safety systems, maintenance, and best practices for aftertreatment health and longevity

· Truck order reviews

o Assist sales team to ensure optimized spec is ordered. This includes making sure the vehicle will be compatible and integrate with 3rd party equipment that will be installed in the case of vocational trucks.

· Customer presentations

o Humbly, but with confidence, present recommendations & analysis to customers

· Advocate for all the ‘one-stop-shop’ products and services offered by Stoops

· Additional activities to be determined by the manager as this new position will evolve over time

Minimum Qualifications:

· Positive attitude

· Self-motivated

· Demonstrated, high level of mechanical inclination/aptitude

· Significant and detailed understanding of commercial trucks at a component level

· Passion for learning and teaching

· Thrives in a team environment

· Strong oral and written communication

· Strong computer competency

· 2yr commitment to the position

Desired Skills / Experience:

· Applicable degree or industry relevant training/certifications

· Knowledge of powertrain spec’ing fundamentals

· Experience with latest safety systems and how they interface with the vehicle and driver

· Previously facilitated product or service training with customers or similar audience

· Familiarity with Detroit Diesel Virtual Technician and the Detroit Connect portal

· Ability to use DTNA online resources such as technical reference materials, sales and marketing tools, SpecPro, DiagnosticLink, etc.

· Understanding of DDEC reports and how to interpret and apply the data

· Commercial Driver’s License holder
