Unit Secretary

Day Shift 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Loyal Source is actively in search of a motivated Unit Secretary to place into a 13-week position in Jackson, TN. Using independent judgment, the Unit Secretary provides clerical services to the patient care units. They are responsible for the correct transcription of orders, filing of all reports, and arranging for transportation and follow-up/outside tests.

JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES/COMPETENCIES:

• Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality.
• Answers the telephone, takes and delivers messages by phone or verbally.
• Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff members of the facility in a pleasant, professional manner.
• Maintains close communication with the Charge Nurse/House Supervisor.
• Types, photocopies and distributes memoranda's and letters.
• Handles all necessary paperwork in a timely manner. Processes inpatient charge sheets on a daily basis for submission to the Business Office. Processes time sheets for staff.
• Maintains a copy of the department policies and procedures and assists in updating and distributing new information.
• Updates acuity worksheet as needed for the Chief Nursing Officer.
• Provides transcription services as required by staff.
• Provides PBX with back-up coverage according to a set schedule.
• Orders supplies as needed from Materials Management.
• Verifies physician privileges prior to transcribing orders. Appropriately transcribes and flags orders from charts.
• Reviews tests to be completed. Tracks results obtained. Files all results in patients’ charts.
• Notifies staff of pending orders. Notifies physician when directed nurse.
• Calls for consults per physician orders.
• Arranges for transport of patients for tests not offered in the hospital.
• Schedules appointments and follow-up visits.
• Places all orders on Kardex.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Care Traffic Controller Responsibilities (for Hospitals with Amplion System):

• Coordinates patient care needs.
• Communicates with patients and clinical staff members.
• Assigns phones to caregivers utilizing the CTC Clinical Dashboard.
• Observes and identifies the specific needs of the patient via the Nurse Call system, then using Amplion, instructs the proper caregiver to deliver the specific care, assigned by each patient’s bed number.
• After assigning a specific message, confirms that the message has been addressed. (This is confirmed by the message being cleared by the caregiver when pressing the message button in a specific patient room).
• Assigns the message to another caregiver if the initial caregiver is unable to address the message.
• Handles all open messages in a timely manner.

SALARY:

Each location and client are unique; so are the pay packages associated with them. We are happy to discuss, in detail, an exact pay package for this position including taxed and untaxed money, where applicable.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 
  High School Diploma-Required
• Experience with medical files and medical terminology-Required
• 1+ year experience as a unit secretary
