Position Description: Video Operator Technician

Overview Gravity Media is seeking a Video Operator Technician with proven experience as a broadcast shader, video engineer and technician. This is not a content or creative position. You will play a key role on the technical team and will deliver network level visual results during live broadcasts over as many as seven cameras simultaneously.

You must have demonstrated knowledge and high level, hands-on experience with broadcast camera equipment, including complete camera chains. Detailed understanding of color correction and color matching for broadcast and the ability to convey that understanding as it relates to lighting is vital. Your understanding of waveform monitors should be exceptional and your ability to communicate their use is a must. Prior experience in the installation, programming and maintenance of production and broadcast equipment and related IT and IP hardware is a bonus. The Video Operator will work closely with the Engineer in Charge and the rest of the
Gravity Media team to ensure the flawless execution of live broadcasts. To be successful on this team, you will be able to adapt to changing priorities and have the ability to solve technical and operational problems independently and under pressure.

Essential Duties

• Day to day operation of the camera RCP units during broadcast
• Color control and shading of 5 studio broadcast cameras during live and live to tape
• Operation, including color shading, of 5 of robotic cameras
• Coordination and communication with lighting for desired results during broadcast
• Coordination and communication with on-site studio camera operators and remote production team
• Provide technical reports and general status for each project
• Ability to make up and terminate cable
• General fault finding ability
• Maintain knowledge of technology trends, standards and methodologies along with emerging technologies
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years video experience of increasing responsibility and skill in a broadcast environment
• Education or training in broadcast TV production
• Experience with live and recorded remote broadcast transmission technologies and systems
• Ability to communicate calmly and effectively while under pressure with onsite and remote teams
• Familiarity of associated production systems (signal processing, cameras, switchers, audio mixers, intercom, encoders/decoding, feeds, master control, automation, server-based playback and transmission systems, etc.) a plus

Knowledge base
Thorough systems knowledge of broadcast infrastructure, which includes technical spaces (control rooms, studios, terminal gear/equipment/central apparatus/distribution riser rooms).

• Broadcast training from SONY, LAWO, Dante, EVERTZ, RTS and ClearCom
• Familiarity with Autocad and Vizio desired
• Should be good at conveying technical concepts and ideas in an easy to comprehend manner for technical and non technical persons
• Excellent soldering skills and precise skills in terminating various types of cable
• While self-motivated and resourceful, must have team-centric attitude
• Solution-oriented approach to solving unusual or unexpected problems

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, reach outward or above the shoulder, stand, walk, handle with fingers, bend, and stoop.
• Ability to operate a keyboard, view a video display terminal screen, ability to use telephone equipment.
• Ability to li up to 20 pounds and push or pull up to 25 pounds.
