Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Product Development Configuration Design Engineer role (level 3) based in Everett, WA.
This position will support the Airplane Configuration & Integration (AC&I) organization within BCA Product Development (PD). The AC&I team spearheads the design, development and synthesis of innovative, world-class commercial aerospace vehicles—we shape how the world travels. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering leaders, customers, and partners to lead multi-disciplinary engineering design teams to accomplish team's responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
Advocacy of the airplane as a balanced market and technical solution.
Conceptual definition of new and derivative airplanes, such as conceptual geometry and sizing
Market and technical requirements development, and solution definition
Leading of technical trade studies to optimize a product
Leading of multi-disciplinary design team through development tasks
Configuration change management and program planning
Ensuring product integrity
Identification and resolution of development risk and opportunity
Innovative software / tool development to support conceptual airplane design

The successful candidate must also be willing to work throughout the Puget Sound region.
Position Responsibilities:
Synthesizes conceptual/preliminary aerospace vehicles
Supports development of aerospace vehicle requirements (e.g., range, payload, operating and lifecycle cost)
Designs and analyzes vehicle configurations from customer requirements
Leads multi-discipline trade studies to assess design space and concept viability
Participates in the definition and proposal of trade studies to meet design space, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements
Develops multi-disciplinary configuration optimization tools and processes
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering or science related field
3+ years of experience on aerospace engineering design team
Experience leading an engineering design team
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree
Working knowledge of aircraft performance in one or more of the following areas: aerodynamics, stability and control, propulsion, structures, payloads or airplane systems
Knowledge of systems engineering processes and best practices
Working knowledge of engineering design/analysis tools, such as CATIA, CAMEO, etc.
Experience with Multi-disciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization, applied to aerospace vehicle product development
Experience participating in and leading multi-discipline engineering design activities
Experience with configuration management processes and best practices
Experience with object-oriented programming and ‘clean code’
Proficient in one or more computer languages (Python, VB.net, C#, etc.)
Experience with the design for producibility, design for service and support, and design for cost
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
