Johnson Metal Works is an established custom metal fabrication company which is seeking a full-time, experienced, Project Engineer. We design and fabricate OEM, structural, and custom architectural metalwork. We provide in-house laser-cutting, a 30-ton sheet metal brake, welding, and finishing. Our design pace is fast, our growth is steady, and our fabrication products are top-notch.

Project Engineers at JMW are responsible for the estimating and design of custom products with a focus on manufacturability, cost, and function. Production schedule can range from less than one day on simple cut/form jobs to multiple months on large volume manufacturing projects. The work flow starts with a estimate or quote, depending on whether the client has drawings. Following a sales order you'll then work to produce fabrication drawings for customer review and approval and continues through nesting, detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.

Applicants must have a team attitude, always striving for solutions, strong background in estimating and 3D modeling, preferably with some experience in designing for weldments and forming sheet metal. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can ‘hit the ground running’ as an experienced project engineer but we can also train and help fill in minor deficiencies in any of the fabrication areas. This role will allow you to manage your own projects and designs with minimal oversight. The interview process will include a simple proficiency test for basic design and modeling skills.

• Willingness to adjust designs for others’ needs
• Willingness to learn new procedures and organizational software

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Mechanical Engineer, ME Tech, or equivalent experience
• Experience in 3D modelling and generating drawings
• Ability to read, understand, & interpret documents & plans/drawings
• Excellent time management, organization, and independent judgment skills
• Acute attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with Onshape, Draftsight, and/or AutoCAD
• Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, drawing and welding symbols
• Strong analytical and math skills
• Ability to prioritize and multitask
• Excellent communication skills
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Operating Systems & Microsoft Office applications
• Some construction experience is of added value
