Description

We’re SmartThings, one of the leading IoT ecosystems in the world, creating the most effortless way for anyone to create a smart home. As an independent subsidiary of Samsung, our corporate offices are based in Minneapolis, the Bay Area, and remote home offices throughout the US.

SmartThings’ culture is built on our core values, offering singular opportunities to make a real, immediate impact in every role. With our focus on trusted ownership, connected leadership and radical empathy, we embrace inclusive practices and celebrate everyone’s uniqueness on our team.

Like the smartphone revolution, smart home technology is transforming the way we interact with the world around us. With SmartThings products, we’re reducing global emissions, improving service industries, and creating a safer, smarter planet. Come be a part of the transformation with us!

About The Team

As part of the broader Product Management organization at SmartThings, the Solutions & Services team is responsible for a variety of product offerings (including SmartThings Energy, Smart Buildings, Smart Home Security/Monitoring to name just a few) as well as Strategic Partnerships. We represent the voice of the customer, and work hand-in-hand with the Platform and Engineering teams to be able to offer a variety of solutions and services on top of a highly scalable IoT platform.

About The Role

In this role you will have a wide range of responsibilities and an incredible opportunity to shape the next phase of the SmartThings product and partner offerings. As Product Manager, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams as you manage the product development lifecycle for various user facing products.

Key areas that you will own include defining functionality to enhance the user experience and crafting roadmaps to bring new products and services to market. You will work alongside Business Development teams, engaging directly with SmartThings Partners to create value for our mutual users, based on current gaps and customer needs. This is an important and strategic role within the company that requires not only product thinking but technical business acumen to deliver the maximum strategic impact, as the roadmap you define and help execute will be fundamental to providing a world-class user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the product strategy, design and roadmap for various SmartThings Solutions & Services, which may include or depend on partner devices (e.g. Cameras)
  • Understand the market needs, and bridge business and technical considerations that result in innovative and compelling solutions for customers.
  • Engage directly with strategic partners to define collective use cases and objectives for the partnership, as well as set timelines for bringing integrations to market.
  • Coordinate and sync product initiatives across different internal teams, executive stakeholders, and business units, by establishing shared vision and getting buy-in.
  • Go deep to develop strong insights into customer needs and behaviors, as well as understand the competitive landscape, to inform product direction
  • Define product priorities and collaborate with engineers to overcome roadblocks and evaluate trade-offs when appropriate.
  • Monitor and measure success metrics after launch by incorporating feedback into the product development process
  • Communicate product plans, benefits, and results to all audiences in formal presentations at the team and organization level

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Inclusive Hiring Practices

Our hiring team is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion, and the data shows that candidates from underrepresented groups are less likely than others to apply for a career opportunity if their qualifications and experience don’t appear to be an identical match. • Strong sense of ownership, bias for action, urgency and drive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to concisely communicate with and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, partner teams, and executives.
  • Experience working both independently and collaboratively on product strategy, maintaining roadmaps, identifying hurdles, articulating requirements, and managing product tradeoffs.
  • Strong intuition for product interaction, design, and user experience
  • Data driven mindset, performing market analyses, usability studies, and examining usage patterns to evolve existing services and propose new features.
  • Strong interest in the Internet of Things, Home Automation and Smart Home products
  • Enthusiasm to add to our culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Desired Skills (Nice To Have):
  • General manager/owner mentality, entrepreneurial drive and an ability to influence without authority
  • Past work experience in partner facing roles
  • Experience with product metrics and monetization strategies
  • Experience with embedded systems as an engineer or product manager
  • Prior international work experience
