About Expansion Technologies

Expansion Technologies (EXT) Inc. is an early-stage biotech startup building a novel biomarker and target discovery platform leveraging an MIT-invented nanoscale molecular imaging technology, “Expansion Microscopy”. It focuses on developing and commercializing solutions to help scientists better understand and eventually treat critical diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Software Engineer, Computational Biology

As part of the R & D team, the software engineer will improve, design and develop new features for our existing computational pipeline for expansion microscopy and expansion sequencing. The ideal candidate will have experience designing and testing software for technical computing, with applications to image processing and computational biology. We are looking for someone who is organized, independent, thinks out of the box and can adapt to shifting demands and priorities while contributing to our multidisciplinary team.

This is a 8-month fixed-term contract position, with the possibility to convert to full-time hire.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and benchmark new features and algorithms for our in-house computational pipeline
• Collaborate with our experimental team to identify, define and prioritize tasks
• Maintain existing pipeline (e.g. upgrade dependencies as needed)
• Analyze experimental data and prepare comprehensive reports/presentations of results for internal team members
• Participate in all team activities such as team planning, design discussions, and reviews
• Learn and apply computational biology and image processing techniques, such as ExSeq probe design, wavelet-based background and noise subtraction and cell segmentation

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required. Masters’ Degree highly desirable. Degrees in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biological Engineering preferred.
• 2+ years experience in software development
• Hands-on experience with Python required
• Image processing experience required
• Experience with Python packages for technical computing a plus (including pandas, matplotlib, skimage)
• Experience with computational biology / bioinformatics / image processing techniques a plus
• A high level of commitment and a track record of quality work, with attention to details
• Good communication skills in a multidisciplinary team setting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
