Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Job Description Summary

Within a correctional setting, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works with the site Medical Director and the Mental Health Team in the day-to-day care and management of incarcerated individuals with mental illness.

The Psychiatric Nurse also provides emergency psychiatric care as needed and supervises clinical activities related to services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Evaluate and treat individuals referred to mental health.

· Prescribe medications following guidelines from the State Board of Medicine [and/or State Board of Nursing]. Follow CPS formulary and approval by the NP-PMH primary supervisor.

· Review and adjust all maintenance medications as needed, following established protocols.

· Initiate laboratory/ diagnostic studies deemed appropriate and conduct follow-ups.

· Act as a resource for crisis intervention and preventive mental maintenance strategies as well as patient psychoeducation endeavors.

· Provide emergency psychiatric care as required.

· Work with a dynamic group of healthcare professionals with multi-disciplines in a fast past paced - high-energy environment.

· Supervise clinical activities related to the provision of psychiatric services and ancillary medical personnel while on duty.

· Provide in-service education training for medical and correctional staff as needed.

· Assist the Quality Improvement Committee as needed.

· Follow all security rules and regulations.

Type of position

Full time, salaried position. Contract.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

· Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program with specialty training in psychiatric prescribing.

· Masters in Nursing Degree.

Other:

· Valid and active DEA number.

· Maintain current CPR and ACLS certification.

· One year of clinical experience.

40 hours a week

Monday-Friday

No weekends, holidays or evenings required

Salary

$140,000-$150,000
