About the job

The Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence team is looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to gain hands-on experience with open source and Red Hat products during a summer internship to join us as an AIOps Data Scientist Software Engineer Intern. Using varying techniques, you will process large amounts of product and infrastructure data to create models using Python, TensorFlow, Spark on time series, logging and configuration data.

What you will do

  • Create models based on software stack relationships, performance metrics, and other attributes
  • Create visualizations of outcomes
  • Collaborate with other team members of varying technical abilities on cross-team projects
  • Prototype ideas and communicate results
  • Document code and systems throughout the development lifecycle
  • Deliver demonstrations and technical presentations to a varied audience
  • Communicate with developers and end users through IRC, GitHub, forums, and email

What you will bring

  • Experience using open-source statistical computing toolkits like Jupyter, and scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Data manipulation experience using Python
  • Experience with time series data is a plus
  • Experience with IT operational data is a plus
  • Experience with source code control tools like Git, SVN, GitHub, etc.
  • Coding abilities in Python, shell, etc.
  • Basic understanding of Containers, Kubernetes or OpenShift is a plus
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new tools and technologies
  • Written and verbal communication skills; fluent English language skills
  • Ability to work with a distributed team
  • Ability to work full-time May-August
  • Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the UNIX or Linux operating system (any distribution)
The following are considered a plus:
  • Masters degree in computer science, statistics, economics, or other relevant applied mathematics discipline is preferred; Having worked as a software engineer using Python
  • Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub
  • Knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, JavaScript, or Bash scripting or zsh usage
